Two Reported Missing After Car Plunges into River Near Sydney
Authorities said they were alerted to reports of a car entering the river near the rural town of St Albans—about 70 kilometers northwest of Sydney—at approximately 11:50 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, officers found one man in his 20s had managed to escape the submerged vehicle and reach the riverbank. Two other men who were also inside the car remain unaccounted for, police confirmed.
According to the police statement, the NSW State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service began searching the area for the two missing men.
Paramedics assessed the surviving man at the scene. He did not require hospital treatment.
The incident occurred as intense weather conditions battered the region. Authorities had issued broad flood alerts on Wednesday, warning millions across NSW to brace for dangerous conditions.
