Kim Jong Un praises ground commanders of N. Korea fighting against Ukraine
On Wednesday, Kim welcomed back the leaders of the Korean People’s Army’s overseas operations unit, who had returned home for a formal commendation ceremony. During the meeting, he was briefed on the activities of North Korea’s forces abroad and “highly appreciated their feats of leading the combat units of our armed forces, which participated in the operations to liberate the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, to victory.”
“Our army is now doing what it ought to do and what needs to be done. It will do so in the future too,” Kim declared.
Officials in South Korea noted that this acknowledgment serves as another confirmation of North Korean troop involvement in Russia’s war effort. The country’s Unification Ministry stated that Wednesday’s gathering “appears aimed at justifying the deployment and boosting morale.”
The ministry also emphasized that this represents the first known instance of North Korea holding a commendation ceremony for soldiers who fought in a foreign conflict.
