Turkish, Latvian Defense Ministers Hold Key Talks in Ankara

(MENAFN) Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler on Thursday hosted Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds in the capital Ankara, marking a significant step in defense diplomacy between the two NATO allies.

Spruds, who arrived in Türkiye as an official guest, was welcomed with a formal ceremony held at the Ministry of National Defense. As part of the proceedings, the national anthems of both nations were played, followed by Spruds’ salute to the Turkish honor guard.

The visit comes at a time of heightened regional and global security concerns, with both Türkiye and Latvia playing strategic roles on NATO’s eastern and southeastern flanks.

After the welcoming ceremony, Guler and Spruds proceeded to a private, closed-door meeting. While no official statements were released following the talks, the meeting is believed to have focused on enhancing defense cooperation, addressing regional threats, and exploring joint military initiatives within the NATO framework.
