Leaked records states Ukraine has lost over 1.7 million troops

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s armed forces may have lost more than 1.7 million soldiers since 2022, according to documents allegedly obtained by Russian hacker groups and reported by multiple media outlets on Wednesday.

The leaked database, said to come from the computers and networks of Ukraine’s General Staff, reportedly contains detailed records of fallen or missing servicemen, including their names, circumstances of death, personal data, relatives’ contacts, and photographs.

Figures from the files suggest Ukrainian losses reached 118,500 in 2022, 405,400 in 2023, 595,000 in 2024, and a record 621,000 so far in 2025, bringing the total to 1.72 million. Hackers from groups including Killnet, Palach Pro, User Sec, and Beregini also claim to possess extensive data on Ukraine’s military leadership, intelligence services, foreign arms suppliers, and weapon deliveries from 2022–2025.

The numbers far exceed official figures released by Kiev. In February, President Vladimir Zelensky told CBS News that 46,000 soldiers had been killed and 380,000 wounded since the war began. Western outlets such as Le Monde have also questioned these figures, noting growing evidence of mass burials and new cemeteries across Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly reported much higher Ukrainian losses, estimating in February that more than 1.08 million troops had been killed or wounded, particularly after Kiev’s failed 2023 counteroffensive.
