Qatar Set to Engage in Talks with Hamas on Trump’s Gaza Proposal
(MENAFN) Qatar announced on Tuesday it would facilitate talks with Hamas and Türkiye regarding a peace plan for Gaza proposed by the United States.
Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters in Doha that Turkish delegates are scheduled to participate in a meeting of the Gaza mediation group later today. Meanwhile, Hamas officials are reviewing the proposal introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
"Türkiye now stands as part of the U.S. initiative," al-Ansari stated.
He also confirmed that Hamas had received the full details of the U.S. plan late Monday evening, and assured that the group would consider it carefully and with responsibility.
On Monday, President Trump revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had endorsed the new 20-point peace plan for Gaza. Trump added that should Hamas accept the proposal, it would mandate the release of all hostages within 72 hours and urged the group to approve the terms.
However, Netanyahu warned that Israel would continue its military operations against Hamas if the group rejected the U.S. plan.
Qatar has been a pivotal mediator in the Gaza conflict, collaborating with Egypt, the United States, and other regional actors to push for ceasefire agreements, improved humanitarian access, and a sustainable political resolution.
