Trump Blasts Group of U.S. Attorneys for Being Ineffective
The confrontation unfolded Thursday when U.S. attorneys from multiple jurisdictions assembled at the executive mansion for what was billed as a routine ceremonial photograph. Instead, the President launched into criticism of their performance, charging them with incompetence and obstructing the efforts of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, according to individuals with knowledge of the encounter cited by the publication.
The incident preceded a Sunday announcement by the U.S. Federal Reserve revealing that Chairman Jerome Powell faces a criminal investigation by federal prosecutors concerning the central bank's multi-billion-dollar headquarters renovation initiative.
In an official statement published on the Federal Reserve's website, Powell disclosed that the Department of Justice delivered grand jury subpoenas to the Fed on Friday, "threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June. That testimony concerned in part a multi-year project to renovate historic Federal Reserve office buildings."
