Trump Says U.S. "Very Close" to Meeting Objectives in Iran

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday evening that "it's getting very close" to meeting American objectives in Iran, adding he does not expect ground troops will be required.

White House Correspondent Kellie Meyer of News Nation reported on X that she spoke with Trump in a two minute call. In his first comments following the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Trump told Meyer that "you'll find out soon" what his retaliation will be.

Pressed on whether U.S. forces might deploy on the ground, Trump replied: "I wouldn't give you anything on that. I mean I don't think they'll be necessary."

Hours earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the administration believes its goals against Iran "can be achieved without ground forces." Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill before a classified briefing, Rubio explained: "Right now, our focus is on the destruction of their ballistic missile launchers, their ballistic missile stockpiles and their ballistic missile manufacturing capability, as well as their one-way attack drones and their Navy."

Meanwhile, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, urged the Security Council to "act firmly, clearly, and without ambiguity" in response to U.S. and Israeli strikes. Iravani accused Washington and Tel Aviv of launching "a second deliberate and unprovoked" military attack, calling it "a calculated act of aggression."

He further alleged that the United States and Israel were "deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure," claiming the assault killed 165 schoolgirls in Hormozgan province. "These acts constitute aggression. They constitute war crimes. They constitute crimes against humanity," Iravani said.
