Spain’s FM Calls for Lebanon’s Inclusion in US-Iran Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Spain has called for Lebanon to be part of the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, reaffirming support for the country’s sovereignty.

“Lebanon must be included in the ceasefire reached today in the Middle East,” Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares wrote on the social media platform X following a phone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Raggi.

During the call, Albares emphasized Spain’s backing for Lebanon’s sovereignty and condemned attacks carried out by both Hezbollah and Israel. He also expressed support for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The US announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday, describing Tehran’s submission of a “workable” 10-point plan for negotiations.

According to reports, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that the plan, delivered to the US through Pakistani mediation, includes a US pledge of non-aggression, Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, and the lifting of primary and secondary sanctions.

The proposal also covers compensation to Iran, withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, and an end to hostilities on all fronts, including the conflict involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.
