Iran Agrees to Draft Plan to End War, Reopen Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Iran has agreed to a draft plan aimed at ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by newspaper citing senior Iranian officials.

The proposed framework reportedly calls for a halt to fighting across multiple fronts, including in Lebanon, while prioritizing the restoration of free navigation through the key maritime corridor.

Under the reported plan, restrictions on commercial shipping would be lifted and the previously described naval blockade would be removed, allowing vessels to transit the strait without imposed tolls or restrictions.

The agreement would also postpone complex issues related to Iran’s nuclear program, with those matters expected to be addressed in separate negotiations within 30 to 60 days.

In addition, the draft reportedly includes provisions for the release of approximately $25 billion in Iranian assets frozen abroad.

According to the report, mediation efforts involving Pakistan and Qatar played a role in facilitating the draft understanding between the parties.

The development comes after US President Donald Trump said earlier that a broader agreement with Iran had been “largely negotiated,” though he noted that final details were still being finalized.
